Pets are considered seniors after seven years of age. Our doctors recommend that senior pets come in for an exam every six months, but careful monitoring on your end is equally as important. General Care FAQs

When should I call the vet?

Call your vet if your pet is showing any signs of illness, such as vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, or if they have sustained an injury. Always contact us in case of emergencies, like breathing difficulties or sudden behavioral changes.

What monthly preventatives do dogs need?

Dogs need monthly preventatives for heartworms, fleas, ticks, and other parasites. Preventive care helps avoid serious health issues and keeps your pet safe year-round.

What monthly preventatives do cats need?

Cats should be given monthly flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives, even if they stay indoors. These medications help protect your cat from a wide range of parasites.

Why is it important for pets to have preventive care?

Preventive care is essential for early detection of health issues. Routine wellness exams, vaccinations, and parasite preventatives ensure your pet stays healthy and can prevent more serious conditions from developing.

How often should you bathe your dog?

Depending on your dog’s breed and activity level, bathing once every 4-6 weeks is generally sufficient. Bathing too frequently can dry out their skin, but regular cleaning keeps them fresh and free from parasites. Certain skin conditions may require more frequent bathing.

How often should you bathe your cat?

Most cats do not need frequent baths, as they are good at grooming themselves. However, long-haired cats or cats with certain medical conditions may require occasional baths.

What happens if you don't brush your dog's teeth?

If you don’t brush your dog’s teeth, plaque and tartar can build up, leading to gum disease, tooth decay, and even more severe health issues such as heart and kidney disease. Regular dental care is essential for their overall health.

How often should you brush your cat's teeth?

It’s recommended to brush your cat’s teeth at least 2-3 times a week. This helps prevent plaque buildup, bad breath, and other oral health issues.
